letsgotonantucket Website Launches     05 Feb 2004

If you're planning on working in the States this summer, you may already know it's getting a lot harder to get your J-1 visa. Unlike years before, governmental regulations now require that you have a job before you enter the US. That's where we come in!

Travel and Work regulations update     26 Jan 2004

Please note the following changes to the regulations to successfully acquire a J1-Visa;

All students must attend a pre-departure interview and mandatory fingerprinting at the US Embassy in Dublin. Once your fees have been paid your interview can be scheduled. Once your interview is complete your visa can be issued. Those you pay their fees in full first will be issued with their visa first.

All students must have a valid US Job Offer in order to travel. US Job Offers may have to be presented at the time of interview in the US Embassy. Any job offers which are found to be fraudulent will be rejected and the person involved will receive a lifelong ban from obtaining any visa to the US.

Final year students are no longer eligible for the J1 programme.

On the plus side there is now an unlimited number of second and third time visas to those students who wish to travel to the States.

J-1 REGULATION ALERT     18 Jan 2003

The following news was posted on the Usit site!!

Be prepared. J-1 REGULATION ALERT
We have learned that there are proposed new regulations under consideration by the US government which would affect the operation of the J-1 Summer Work and Travel Programme for next summer 2003. This has arisen late in the season, due to the heightened security environment in the US, post September 11th.
The proposed changes could result in ALL students being required to have a confirmed approved job before the work permit is issued. We would therefore advise everyone, including those of you who have already opted for the solo option, to check out all the options for pre- arranging a job using the website.

In addition, the US Embassy in Dublin MAY require that all visa applicants, (including the J-1 summer students) attend for a mandatory interview in Dublin before the visa is issued. The US Embassy in the UK and the US Consulate in Belfast have already introduced mandatory interviews.
